Henry Joseph Tendorf, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who loved his family dearly and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wladyslaw and Antonina (Wieczerza) Tendorf, son Joseph Anthony Tendorf, and brothers Richard Tendorf and Zbyslaw Tendorf.
Henry was born in Kazimierka, Poland on March 10, 1940. After spending his childhood detained in WW2 labor camps, Henry and his family were able to leave Germany and emigrated to the Buffalo, NY area in 1951. He graduated from Hutchinson-Central Technical High School and went on to attend the University of Buffalo part time while working. Henry was enrolled in the ROTC program in school and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He was part of the US forces Quartermaster unit sent overseas to the Dominican Republic Conflict in 1965. His military experience with fuel testing led to a very long and successful career for which he was most grateful.
He met the love of his life, Wladyslawa Wojcik, after his sisters Teresa and Christine met her first at a dance one evening and thought they would be a great match. Henry and Wladzia were married on June 27, 1970 and were blessed with 53 years of marriage and five children.
Henry was a devoted husband and father and dedicated his life to providing for his family. He retired from ExxonMobil after 26 years and held many roles including QA/QC Manager and Advisor. He was respected for his knowledge and high standards, and became an expert in his field, traveling extensively around the US and internationally. After retiring from ExxonMobil, he worked as a consultant for 6 years, finally deciding in 2015 to focus his time on his family and maintaining his wooded property he loved so much.
He is survived by his loving wife Wladyslawa Tendorf, daughter Kathy Christy (Jason), sons: David Tendorf (Carol), Stefan Tendorf (Regina) and Paul Tendorf (Aissa). Henry was one of a kind and truly beloved by all who had the honor to know him. His strength, sense of humor, and love for his family will be forever treasured in our hearts and memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Henry’s honor to the American Cancer Society or the Gastric Cancer Foundation.
