Obituary for Murry Ed Lantz

Murry Ed Lantz
Murry Lantz, 85, of Houston, Texas, peacefully passed from this earth on Friday, June 15, 2023. Murry, born in Rotan, Texas, lived in Oklahoma and Wyoming, and since 1965, spent his life in Houston, Texas.

He began his career in pharmacy in 1964 in the Houston area and eventually came to own and operate multiple pharmacies in the Houston area. His flagship pharmacy and fountain were Woodforest Drug. Murry was known for opening the store when a customer was in need or delivering their prescription to their home. He supported the Northshore/Woodforest community through giving time at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, local YMCA, schools, senior citizen centers, and many other local charitable organizations and causes.

Murry was a passionate sports fan and loved Oklahoma University football, the Houston Astros and the Houston Oilers. He prided himself on having a wealth of sports knowledge. Family gatherings were special to him, and he led many gatherings that became legendary in family history. He turned a routine dinner out into a special event.

He first married in 1957 to his high school sweetheart, Yvonne Lantz. While their marriage wouldn’t last forever as they’d hoped, Murry and Yvonne remained close until the day she departed. As a team, they raised their three children, Craig, Kelley and Chris.

In 1981, he married his second wife, Sandra Chandler Green. Sandra had three children from a previous marriage—Kelly, Mark and Brad, and he actively participated in their lives as well.

Murry was the middle child of Leo and Claire Lantz. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Linda Lantz Hallmark and brother Dr. Graham Lantz. Surviving children are Craig (Jill) Lantz, Kelley Lantz Garrett, and Chris (Melissa) Lantz. Grandchildren are Lantz (Kira) Weber, Justin Blok, Alex Garrett, Jonathan Lantz, Sydney Lantz, and Seth Lantz.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lantz and her children Kelly (Butch) Green Sheehy, Mark (Nicole) Green, and Brad (Vera) Green. Grandchildren include Blake (Jordyn) Sebastian, Reagan Sheehy, Kendall Sheehy, Rhett Green, Beau Green; Garrett Green, Skylar Green, and Emma Green. Great Grandchildren are Luca Sebastian and Rocco Sebastian.

Murry is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and a host of friends.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, June 21 at John Wesley Methodist Church, located at 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive, Houston, Texas 77069. The service will begin at 3:00 pm with reception immediate to follow.
