Obituary for
Kaylin Taite O'Steen (O'Steen)
Kaylin Taite O'Steen was born on March 8, 2001, in Panama City, Florida. She died on October 25, 2022, in Houston, Texas. She will forever be 21 years old.
Kaylin came into this world with spunk and spirit, her vibrant red hair a clue to the fiery person she would become. During her childhood, her family traveled widely as part of her father's career as an air traffic controller in the Air Force. She visited four counties by the time she was four. While living in Aviano, Italy, Kaylin grew up learning both Italian and English. She spent family holidays picking wildflowers in the Austrian Alps or exploring castles with her brother in Germany.
The family moved to Houston in 2006. As a little girl, Kaylin loved Briar horses and horseback riding. She adored her big brother, Cameron Tyler Sims, and followed him everywhere- whether he was playing Zelda or catching armadillos in their backyard. In turn, Cameron doted on his baby sister. The siblings enjoyed a closeness that most families would envy.
Kaylin's early experience with travel and adventure carried over to adulthood. She loved visiting other countries, particularly Mexico, where she could be found exploring caves and swimming in the Pacific. She spent many happy memories with her family at "the river" and at the beach.
Kaylin grew into a strong, fiercely independent young woman who was deeply devoted to her family. Her greatest joys included times when her family joined together to celebrate holidays or pass time together, talking and laughing long into the night hours. She had a enormous sense of fun and spontaneity, and she was known to delight her family and friends with surprise visits. She moved confidently through the world, bringing joy and laughter wherever she went.
Kaylin was particularly close to her parents, John Leslie O'Steen and Sarah Jo Ruth O'Steen. She loved them ferociously. She was also a devoted aunt to her nephew, Samuel Sims, and her niece, Olivia Sims. Kaylin was a beloved cousin, granddaughter, niece, and friend. She also loved animals, and she was a loving cat mom to a sweet tortoiseshell named Pixie.
Kaylin's light and laughter brought together loved ones from across the globe, leaving behind a network of family who will cherish her for all time. Her spirit was too big for this world, but her memory is immortal.
