Obituary for
Loretta Janice "Jan" Spencer (Young)
Loretta Janice “Jan” Spencer went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2018. She was born in Friona, Texas on September 24, 1956. She is preceded in death by her daddy, Troy Young. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, J.D. Spencer, Jr.; children David Spencer and wife Jennifer, Dodie Niemeyer and husband Chris, Mandy King and husband Robert; grandchildren Noah, Gabriel, Micah and Isabella Spencer, Madison and Rylan Niemeyer, Patrick, Lynsie & Brooklyn King; mother, Gladys Young; siblings Karen Head and husband Roger, Farron Young, Denny Young and wife Denise, and scores of family and friends. Mom met Dad in their hometown of Friona, and they were married on June 6, 1974. Mom was extremely active when her children were young. She was on the Parents And Teachers for Students (PATS) board for 3 years, even serving as president. During that time, she organized many festivals and fundraisers for A.M. Aiken elementary school. A Girl Scout herself as a child, she was a leader of Dodie’s and Mandy’s Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, and she also served as an assistant service unit manager and was elected to serve on the board of directors in the San Jacinto Council of the Girl Scouts, the largest council in the Nation. She attended David’s ball games and always shouted encouragement for her only son. Mom enjoyed decorating her home and helping others do the same. For several years, she worked as a sales consultant and designer for Home Interiors and Gifts. She enjoyed crafts, and during every family gathering, she couldn’t be seen without her big red “caboodle” full of crafting implements. She loved to sing, and she loved to harmonize with Dad often to their favorite hymns. She had a beautiful alto voice, and singing worship songs in church was one of her great delights. She had a big heart and loved everyone, but Dad was the love of her life. Together they provided a happy, loving home for their kids and set a great example to follow. She was guided by her faith, her love of our heavenly father and savior, and that faith was an inspiration to everyone she came into contact with. When the grandkids came along, she loved them and spoiled them like crazy. Her face lit up the room when any of her 9 grandkids were present. Snuggling with them in front of a good movie was a favorite pastime. Her mark on this world and those she leaves behind will not be easily forgotten. While we mourn the loss of her beautiful presence, we rejoice and take comfort in the fact that the pain she was afflicted with in this life is over and she is in the presence of her Heavenly Father and Savior. A visitation will be Friday, May 4, 2018 at Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Rosewood Funeral Home in Porter. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park North in Porter, Texas.
