Dear Dad. Well it has been over a year since you went to your real home with Jesus. Although you made Minnesota, Iowa and Texas seem like home for us all, they were still all temporary. I miss you and mom. Next Friday April 14, 2017 is good Friday. I think about planting potatoes. I will spend Thursday night at Celebrate Church and Good Friday at a community service at the high school here in Knoxville. Time is getting shorter and shorter until Jesus comes back to take us all with him for a great reunion. I will love seeing you and mom again. And just think, we will be withJesus and never have to be apart again. To everyone who celebrated my father and or mother's life with us I thank you for the memories you shared and the valuable time you spent with us to comfort us in our grief. Remember F.R.O.G. and A.L.I.V.E.

Grandpa and I would go to the little parks around Elk Run Heights. There were four of them that we would go to. We would normally go to them on the bicycle build for two. I always had fun with Grandpa.

We didn't see much of each other because my family had to move away from Iowa for the Navy, but Grandpa always made sure to send me a Christmas and birthday card.

He came all the way out to Virginia for my high school graduation because he knew I had struggled all through school and he was so proud of me. I did not even know he was comming out. He even brought my Grandma on my Mom's side. It was an amazing surprise!

I love you Grandpa! You were an amazing guy and you gave me an amazing Dad. I am proud to have your last name. Tell Grandma I say Hi. Miss you both!

Tribute to Mr Z

Dear Zilk Family,

I was so sad to hear of the passing of your Sweet Father, grandfather , Uncle and our friend. It was with great sadness when Louise called me on Thursday. For the past 16 years when I would go to Texas to see Louise we always saw Mr Z and did something with both of them. When asked would he like to go do something his answer was always well I gueesss so. I will always remember he guessed so... What a dear sweet kind man. The world will have a great loss with his passing but Heaven is singing at his arrival.

Ron and I are very sorry but he had surgery last Tuesday and is still in a lot of pain and just cant get in the car for that long to be at the service on Monday in Texas. Please know you each have our deepest condolences and prayers during this heart wrenching time.

Story shared: Mr. Z. My Best Friend

Mr. Z. was my neighbor and has been a good friend since the year 2000. We met at a Sr. day event at Porter Baptist church. He visited with my husband many times and they swaped stories about their younger days.

When my husband was very ill, Mr. Z would come and sit with him. My husband passed in 2006. Several months later, I invited Mr. Z. to go to with me to Huntsville to see the Sam Houston Memorial Statue. A true friendship was formed.

We both enjoyed church and the social activities held there. We had the best of two churches. He was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church and I am a member of Woodridge Baptisit Church. We attended every Sunday at one or the other and went to all the senior day activities. He wanted to make his days count in helping where ever he was needed so he volunteered with me to work 4 hours on Mondays at the NE Mission.

He was a very kind gentleman and I will miss him. I feel he went to be with the Lord in a happy state of mind. Well done my good and faithful servant.

Grandpa was the most gentle soul I've ever known. He loved without judgement and had a way of making me feel unique & important. Things that will always remind me of Grandpa are: lima beans, chocolate milk, moped rides and Skip Bo games. With a heavy heart I say goodbye but also with a smile as I know he is at peace. I will greatly miss our letter swapping. Love, Kasie

Growing up in the First Reformed Church of Evansdale the Zilks were a big part of my childhood. Merwin always a soft spoken person with a smile on his face! Maxine was my Sunday school teacher and made learning fun. Heaven has once again joined these two together and that I am sure of!
