A Mother's Love

When my own Mama was very sick, she told me that the hardest thing about going home to God was leaving her children. This reminded me of a time that I spent the night with Virginia (Bitty Sister) when I was very young. I slept in the room with Vicky, and I was woken in the middle of the night by Vicky who was having an asthma attack. I was absolutely terrified. Vicky could barely talk, but she managed to say for me to go get her Mama. I flew down the stairs in a panic, banged on her door, and screamed that Vicky needed her. She ran upstairs, and took a moment outside the door to calm herself. She walked in, and gently gathered Vicky close and gave her the treatment she needed with her inhaler. Then she held her until she fell asleep. As a Mother, I now know how scared she must have been herself, and how hard it must have been to remain calm for Vicky's sake. She knew exactly what her child needed, and made sure she got it. Not just the medication, but more importantly, the comfort. I think she spent her entire adult life making sure her girls had what they needed. They were blessed.
