Obituary for Guadalupe Vasquez "Lupe" Pena

Guadalupe “Lupe” Peña of Houston passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was 92 years old.

Lupe was born December 6, 1926, in Kenedy, Karnes County, Texas, to Gavino Vasquez and Rosa Cervantes.

She married Thomas Peña on September 28, 1953 and had six children. She was hard working, fiercely independent, and loved being surrounded by family. Lupe worked tirelessly to raise her children and adored her second career of providing childcare for the Cupelli family and countless children from St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Lupe loved to have a good time, enjoyed poking fun, and cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lupe is preceded in death by her parents Gavino Vasquez and Rosa Cervantes; siblings Jesus, Gavino, Pilar Valdez, Guillermo, Servando, Arnulfo, Melchora Flores, and David.

She is survived by her brother Guadalupe “Lupe” (Elia) of Corpus Christi and children Thomas “Tommy” of Houston, Irma Moore (Hugh) of Houston, Mary Helen Stokman (Konrad “Fritz”) of Humble, Raul of Pasadena, David (Sharyn) of Humble, and Irene Litton (James) of Cypress; grandchildren Matthew Moore (Toni), Jonathon Stokman, Jessica Clark (Weston), Emily Williford (Carl), Nathan, Joshua Litton (Alejandra “Allie”), Christian, Kaitlyn, Erin, Sheridan, Lauren, Ryan, and Michayla Litton; great-grandchildren Aiden Stokman, Wade Clark, Carl Williford IV, Maverick Moore, Sterling Williford, and Odin Moore.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 527 S Houston Ave in Humble, on Friday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m with the Rev. Philip Wilhite officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
