Obituary for Vera Olivia Shaw (Hall)

Vera Olivia Shaw (Hall)
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Vera O. Shaw was born in Terrell, TX in Kaufman Co. on October 24th, 1936, to Matthew C. Hall and Joanna Anderson Hall.

She received her formal education in the Terrell, TX Public School System. In 1953 she married her high school sweetheart Billie “B. J.” Shaw and to their union was born 1 son, Rickie L. Shaw. In 1957 they moved to Houston to start a new life in pursuit of giving their son a better life. They were successful!!!

After moving to Houston, Vera worked several jobs before starting the family business of Shaw’s Uptown Gulf with her husband Billie. Together with their son, they owned several full service gas stations before their final location closed in 2002 - 9 years after Billie’s death.

Throughout her life in Houston, she had an affiliation with the Methodist Church with her last membership being at Westbury United Methodist Church. Throughout her servant journey, she served in many capacities including the Choir and Finance Ministries.

Vera loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. One of her favorite past times was watching Steve Harvey host Family Feud and she absolutely loved Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream (and lot of other desserts – she had a sweet tooth)!

Vera O. Shaw, affectionately known as Mommie, MeMa & Honey Baby spent her last year with her son, Rickie and daughter-n-law, Patricia.

She went home to be with Our Lord on April 13th around 1:35 am. She says "See you later" to those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She says "PLEASE JOIN ME!!!” to those who have not. Vera’s desire is that NO MAN, WOMAN or CHILD BE LEFT BEHIND!!!

Vera was proceeded in death by her parents Matthew C. and Joanna Hall; her only brother M. C. Hall, Jr. and her husband B. J. Shaw. She leaves to mourn her son & daughter-n-law Rickie & Patricia Shaw; Granddaughters Janocqua Shaw-Bradford & LeJuane Jenkins (Lajaun Jenkins-husband) and Great-Grandchildren Derrick Bruche Watson, Jr., Chaziah Marie Smith, Halo Azaria Bradford and Harper Noelle Bradford; her 3 Amigos Wilma Romar, Mary Brown & Brenda Coleman, as well as, a host of relatives and friends.

"This is not goodbye-you gotta get here!!!"

Vera O. Shaw
