Gaye Marchant Moesser, born April 6, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah, was reunited with her beloved parents, Dell and Velma Marchant, her siblings Dixie and Kent Marchant, and numerous friends and relatives on August 8, 2018. Gaye is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kent Moesser, her brothers, Cal and Randy Marchant, and her four children (Carmen, Dean, Lane, and Merrilee) and their families, including 13 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Gaye grew up in a small Utah town called Peoa. She had an idyllic childhood, living in a middle-class home with her brothers and sister next door to the town’s general store, which was owned by her mother and dad. As a young woman, Gaye had many talents, but especially loved to dance and play the violin. She has lived for the past 15 years with Kent in their home on beautiful Lake Houston with the ducks and the turtles.
She attended Brigham Young University beginning in 1954, and graduated after only 2½ years at the top of her class with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. At age 17, Gaye was introduced to Kent (her future husband and soulmate) at a matinee dance on the BYU campus. After their first date, Kent was hooked, and three years later, after Kent served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the couple was sealed in marriage in the Salt Lake City Temple.
In Gaye’s 2017 biography, entitled The Book of Gaye, her youngest daughter, Merrilee, recalls:
As a young mother, I remember sitting next to my parents in a Sunday School class when they lived in Paa-Ko in the mountains behind Albuquerque. The class was talking about “Christ-like qualities.” My Mom nudged my Dad and said, “that sounds just like you.” Dad then turned to her and said, “I thought it sounded like you.” The love between these two is one for the record books (The Book of Gaye, pg. 46).

Regarding his mother, Gaye’s eldest son, Dean, wrote: “She is angelic in my view, and as close to perfect as any mortal could be” (pg. 45). Eldest daughter, Carmen, said: “I am very grateful for my Mom’s testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She is an elect lady and has raised us to cherish our membership in the Church and to strive for an eternal family” (pg. 44). Youngest son Lane recalls, “I can never forget the tireless role Mom played in rescuing my sanity and my life after my marriage broke up in the early 2000s. Not only would I not be me without mom in my corner, but I very literally would not be alive today without her and Dad” (pgs. 44-45).
Gaye’s family and friends love her beyond measure, and she will be in our hearts and minds for all time and eternity. Visitation will be held from 9- 10 a.m., on Monday, August 13, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow and begin at 1:15 p.m., at Houston National Cemetery, in Houston, Texas.
