Obituary for Mae Clifton Davis (Layton)

Mae Clifton Davis passed away Sunday morning July 22, 2018 at age 94. She was born in Clayton, New Jersey where she spent her childhood. She graduated early, both from skipping a grade and finishing college in two years due to the war effort (WWII).

She became a teacher at a young age, graduating from New Jersey State Teachers College at Glassboro (now Rowan University). After meeting and marrying Clifton Berry Davis she moved to Texas, teaching elementary school in New Jersey, Mount Pleasant, TX, and Pasadena, TX, where she taught at L.F. Smith Elementary for almost 40 years.

In Texas, she obtained her masters degree from East Texas State Teachers College (now Texas A&M University-Commerce).

After retiring, she had more time for her love of reading, painting, scrapbooking, cooking, and gardening.

She moved to Tomball to be near her children in 2009.

She is survived by her sister Thelma Pate, daughter Sharon Davis, son Clifton (Margaret) Davis, many loving nieces and nephews, and her good friend Carolyn Kasper.

Services will be held at Rosewood Pasadena Chapel on Friday July 27, 2018. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 11:30 AM with the service to follow at 11:30 AM.
