Obituary for Jack Steve Blount

With a firm hand you guided,
With a soft hand you taught,
Forever you'll be remembered,
Forever in my heart.

Jack S. Blount, 81, passed to his forever home Feb. 14, 2018. Born near Winters, TX to John T. and Perlina Blount Sept. 1, 1936, he is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Elizabeth, Sleaty, Hazel, Rivie, Virginia, and Billie. He is survived by loving family: wife of 59 years, Betsy; sons, Steve of Pasadena, Jack W. and daughter-in-law Janell of Ardmore, OK; daughter, Rebecca of Pasadena; grandson, Stetson of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers Johnny and Jimmy Blount; sister Lena Pearl Owens, and many nieces and nephews.

Jack had to take early retirement from Pipefitter Local Union 211 in 1996 because of his lungs. We thank God that Jack received a left lung transplant March 21, 2010, which gave him almost 8 more years to be with us. We wish to thank the J. C. Walter Transplant team, and the staff of Methodist Hospital Dunn Tower Transplant Unit, floors 4 and 10; many friends were made there. Many thanks, also, to Seasons Hospice, their chaplain, and our nurse Tammie.

Jack enjoyed going to Golden Acres Baptist Church and his Sunday School class for many years. He was a member of the South Houston Masonic Lodge 1295, and a lifetime member of the Pasadena Music Club, where he enjoyed playing country and gospel music with his many friends. He also played at nursing homes, churches, and the Salvation Army. Music was his hobby and love.

We will miss our loved one, but are thankful for God's grace and mercy during this time, and know that we will have a reunion one day.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Jack's memory to Nora's Home, 8300 El Rio St, Houston, TX 77054, www.norashome.org
