Obituary for Lester Mitchell Anderson

Lester Mitchell Anderson
Lester Mitchell “Mitch” Anderson, 91, passed away at 4:15 PM in his home on Saturday, February 3, 2018 in Deer Park, Texas. He was born February 9, 1926 to Mack and Lillie Mable Anderson in Lucedale, MS. On June 20, 1980 he married Josefina Villarreal in Alice, Texas whom he stayed married for 15 years. Lester enjoyed hunting, traveling, and various sports. His favorite sport to watch was college football, he used to say that at the pro level the passion for the game was lost a little. His two favorite sports to play throughout his life were baseball/softball and pool. He was able to play pool until he was 86 years old and during his final days of playing you could still catch a glimpse of his old talent on the pool table every now and then.

Lester graduated for Nixon/Smiley High School in 1944, then shortly after joined the United States Navy for one of his two enlistments into our military. He served in WWII and the Korean War. Throughout his life he had many jobs from car salesman, maintenance man, yard maintenance man, derrickman, and others along the way, but the two most of us will remember his by are his Exxon/Mobile Service Station Ownership, and as a Driver for Monument Chevrolet where thru both he was able to grace others with his unforgettable smile and great sense of humor. Outside of work, Lester was a devout Christian and though he had hard times from time to time his faith never wavered which has allowed him to be with Our Father in Heaven looking down on us. Lester also donated many hours of his time to coaching 5-6-year-old children to adults in various sports, but none standing a chance to when he coached baseball; baseball being one of his true loves during his life. He loved the Astros and he was around just long enough to watch them will it all.

And as Lester would say, “Keep on Truckin” because in the end that’s all we really can do.

Survivors include his ex-wife Josefina of Pasadena area; his 3 sons, Jorge Acevedo, Lester Anderson, and Larry Anderson of Pasadena area, his baby sister Mable Turnipseede (90) of Corpus Christi area, his grandchildren (Briana Dae & Jorge Alberto Acevedo, Iliana Alize & Jayden Anthony Anderson (Lester), and Manuel Joseph & Ian Alexander Anderson (Larry), as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mack and Lillie Mable Anderson; his brothers and sisters Louvenia Ellzy, Katie Hirt, Chester, R.J., Alton, and Curtis Anderson.
